Inclusive Language and Listening
Course Introduction
This is a highly practical workshop and toolkit for navigating inclusive language and listening skills for today's inclusive workplace. The session introduces inclusive language, why it matters and how to make language safe. We also explore and develop the skill of active listening, in order to build greater understanding and empathy between people. Active listening involves giving your complete focus to what someone else is saying - or ‘listening to understand’. This approach can promote a sense of value and create trust, helping leaders and managers to develop empathy and emotional intelligence.
What will participants learn?
This session will help you to understand what active listening is and the benefits of developing an engaged and empathetic listening style. We will explore the important link between active listening and DEI. We also explore the importance of the language of identity, cover lots of practical tips about language to use and to avoid and introduce how to engage in inclusive dialogue.
